If your website or van says something like “We do kitchens, bathrooms, plumbing, electrical, tiling, fencing, roofing, driveways and more!”, this one’s for you.
Here’s the thing: offering everything isn’t the problem. But trying to say everything at once is.
When people see a long list of services, they don’t remember any of them. It’s noise. And when they’re confused, they move on.
If you want to win more leads, especially from new customers, you need to make your message clear, focused, and easy to remember.

🧱 Think Like a Customer, Not a Tradesperson
You might do 12 things really well. But most people searching online or scrolling social media are only looking for one.
They’re not thinking: “I need someone who does kitchens, driveways and fencing. They’re thinking: “I need someone to sort my garden fence.”
If your messaging focuses on everything, they might not spot the one thing they care about. But if your messaging focuses on that one thing, they remember you. And that’s the goal.
🎯 Be Known for Something First
Here’s a simple rule:
Be known for one thing first. Then add the rest later.
Once someone trusts you for fencing, they’re more likely to ask if you also do decking or patios. That’s where the other services come in, after you’ve got your foot in the door.
Online, it’s about getting found and being remembered. And a message like “We build garden fencing that lasts” is far more effective than “We do fencing, patios, driveways, turfing, decking, landscaping and more!”
📱 This Applies to Social Media Too
The same thing goes for your Instagram bio or Facebook header.
Saying “Property maintenance, handyman, bathrooms, tiling, plastering, garden clearance and more” looks like a shopping list.
Instead, try something like:
“Reliable handyman in North East Lincs — specialising in small jobs and fast fixes.”
It feels clearer, more focused, and easier to recommend to a mate.
🛠️ You’re Not Stuck with One Thing Forever
This isn’t about limiting yourself. It’s about leading with clarity.
You can still offer multiple services, just make sure your messaging leads with the one you’re best known for (or want to be known for).
Then, on your website or in conversation, you can explain the full range. But don’t open with a list.
💬 What If You Genuinely Do Everything?
You probably do. But here’s a quick tip:
👉 Instead of listing everything, describe who you help and what kind of work you’re best at.
Example:
“We help homeowners in Grimsby and Cleethorpes with all kinds of property repairs, from leaky taps to full renovations.”
That’s still broad, but it feels more focused and relatable than a bullet point list of 15 jobs.
